Caroline Rose | Loner

With the opening track entitled “More of the Same”, Caroline Rose’s second studio album Loner is anything but the same-old-same. Loner was a stand-out gem for me in 2018.

Released on Nashville’s New West Records, Loner showcases all sides of Caroline Rose’s dynamic artistry. Blending indie, pop, and alternative Caroline Rose’s clever writing touches on various issues, both serious and comical.

One of the stand-out tracks on Loner is “Jeannie Becomes A Mom”. Your attention is immediately captured by the groovy instrumentation, but Caroline’s lyrics come in and describe a situation that many women find themselves unexpectedly in, becoming a mom.

One of my favorite songs on the album is “To Die Today”. It’s an intimate moment in the album with deep lyrics. In the below performance with OCB Live Caroline described the meaning behind the song as “The song is about wanting to feel everything. When you think about death it makes life feel more vibrant. It’s just a way for me to express wanting to live the most passionate life I can live.”

“Soul No. 5” is one of the most fun and energetic tracks on the album. Do yourself a favor and watch the music video and it will give you an accurate sense of Caroline’s comedic style and personality.

Overall, Loner is an excellent album filled with songs that will make you think, feel a range of emotions, and ultimately have a great time.

If you get a chance to see her concert, don’t hesitate, just DO IT! She and her band put on an amazingly entertaining show.
